w/ Sia & Mark
Explore the dynamic interplay between Smoothstepping and Momentum. Blending the elegance of close embrace with momentum-driven energy, you’ll learn signature movements such as colgadas, leg displacements, pop turns, and chassé variations. Improve posture awareness, balance, and refine lead/follow technique as you integrate these two modes into your dance. This class will deepen your ability to fuse modes while creating confidence and flow in your dancing. -
w/ Sia & Mark
Familiarize yourself with foundational figures like the chasse, promenade, and zigzag while building balance, coordination, and the ability to travel in close embrace. With a focus on musicality and connection, this class helps dancers interpret the music through playful and elegant partnership expression. -
w/ Kira & Ren
Step into the world of fusion dance with confidence! Get familiar with lead and follow communication skills to dance in partnership and express yourself to a wide variety of music. Learn the Academy's basic step with variations, simple turns, and foundational techniques that empower you to join any fusion social dance community. -
w/ Ren
Join Ren for an engaging solo dance class designed for beginner and intermediate dancers. Inspired by the roots of jazz movement, each week you’ll learn simple sequences combining movements like suzie qs, triple steps, and kick ball changes while exploring the relationship between balance, coordination, and musicality. Each class invites you to refine body awareness and discover your own artistic voice through movement. This class is specifically designed for dancers who wish to learn and work on basic dance skills; in other words, if you didn’t take dance classes when you were young, this class is for you! -
w/ Elliot
A progressive four-week series designed to strengthen both technical form and artistic choice in solo contemporary movement. Through structured warmups, center floor exercises, and set choreography, you'll build foundational contemporary vocabulary while developing the tools to make it your own. In the first 2.5 weeks, we'll focus on learning a piece of choreography as taught, building foundational technique while introducing tools of artistic expression—quality and timing of movement, focus, and intention. In weeks 3 & 4, you'll be expressing your own artistic choices throughout the piece. By the end of this series, you'll walk away with foundational contemporary technique, choreography you can perform confidently without guidance, and the skills to infuse movement with your personal artistry.
L3 - Momentum III w/ Selina & Mark
Deepen your knowledge of the Momentum system and gain precision by revisiting and exploring movements such as passbys, ochos, and their variations. Expand your repertoire with rides, the Lindy pop turn, and triple steps. With a focus on lead and follow techniques, this class gives you the tools to start abstracting your dance and exploring its dynamics, rhythm, and spatial patterns, rather than focusing on each movement individually.
L2 - Linear Momentum w/ Heather & Selina
Familiarize yourself with stretch and compression partnership skills in an open position as you learn slotted essentials like pushes, passbys, and more. Explore how to generate, sustain, and release linear momentum to ride the music’s rhythmic flow and speed changes. With a focus on dynamic dancing, this class offers a structured and reliable framework for learning partner dance.
L1: Intro to Partner Dance w/ Kira & Mark
Step into the world of fusion dance with confidence! Get familiar with lead and follow communication skills to dance in partnership and express yourself to a wide variety of music. Learn the Academy's basic step with variations, simple turns, and foundational techniques that empower you to join any fusion social dance community.
SOLO - Martial Arts Influenced Drills w/ Ren
Join Ren as she covers four key elements from her martial arts training that have deeply influenced her approach to dance: stability, balance, timing, and efficiency of motion. Students will learn weekly dance sequences, much like practicing a “form” or “Kata” in martial arts, and learn accompanying drills and exercises to refine these skills in their solo dance practice at home. As in martial arts, Ren’s goal is to introduce students to the joy that comes from refining their own “discipline” in dance. Expect to sweat and feel a little sore after each class!
