ASSESSMENTS

We’re the first and only fusion school that offers classes that build on each each other, for multiple levels and across multiple tracks. This gives us amazing opportunities to learn, but presents a new challenges for managing progression. For that reason the Fusion Dance Academy uses Prerequisites and Assessments to track student progress and create a learning environment where all students can fully participate and benefit from the class content.

Why Prerequisites Matter for our process

To maintain faster-paced class environments and intentionally build on material, we have prerequisites to entering our higher-level classes. If you would like to start any of our classes at a level other than L1, simply demonstrate the prerequisites and you’re welcome to join!

The prerequisites for a track are the Assessable Moves of the track(s) before it. We have 8-9 assessable moves per track.

For any L3 class, that’s L2: Smoothstepping and L2: Baystyle

For any L2 class, that’s L1: Foundations

ASSESSMENTS

The other side of prerequisites are assessments. Assessments test your progress in certain skill(s) by using a certain moves.

When you start a class, you’ll be given a little Assessment Card to help track your progress. During any practica*, you can approach a teacher and ask them to assess one or more moves — if that teacher doesn’t feel like they can assess you, you’ll point out someone who can

  1. To assess a move, students will be expected to lead or follow each move in in the context of a dance. This is a bit harder than just doing it in “ideal class conditions,” and that’s okay. That’s part of the challenge!

  2. If the move is successfully completed, your teacher will stamp your card in that move’s slot

  3. Regardless of whether of whether each move is stamped, we’ll try to give you feedback to help you improve!
